An outdoor campaign to last the ages

Unexpected: It’s well known that you can rely on a Volkswagen. It lasts a long time. But thanks to Volkswagen Service, it can last much longer. That was the insight behind DDB Paris’ 2021 campaign for the auto brand.

Each visual showed a futuristic landscape in which you could notice an intruder: a vintage Volkswagen vehicle. The 3D illustrations took more than 1200 hours, starting with sketches, using a simple pencil and paper to find the right composition.

The retro-futuristic style preserved a realistic feeling with the different elements designed to fit altogether in this new world: vehicles, buildings, roads, characters, animals, robots. Each element was then modelled and placed in a 3D scene just like in a real set. Rendering, textures, and compositing slowly gave life to the whole picture.

Works: During the campaign, sales increased by 8%.
