Powerful ‘Missed Birthdays’ Campaign by CALM and adam&eveDDB

Thousands of brightly colored birthday balloons fill a space in one of London’s largest shopping malls. To many people, a birthday balloon is a symbol of celebration and joy.

In this case, each of the balloons–6,929 in total–represents a young person who died by suicide in the U.K. over the past decade, and the age they would have been at their next birthday.

The installation from Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a U.K. suicide prevention charity, and adam&eveDDB, is a shocking and stark symbol of the growing mental health crisis among young people.
